Executive Director Job Vacancy - Moving the Goalposts Kilifi (MTGK)

Moving the Goalposts (MTG) is an innovative, unique and expanding development programme that uses football to provide opportunities for GIRLS to improve their socio-economic and health status. It is based in Kilifi and Kaloleni district in Coast Province, Kenya.

It reaches out to close to 3000 girls in more than 150 girls’ football teams with a core value of girls’ participation in programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

MTG is based in Coast Province, Kenya and was set up eight years ago. As part of its growth and succession plan the founding Executive Director will hand over to a new Executive Director during 2011 to build the long term future and sustainability of MTG.

The Executive Director position would ideally suit an ambitious individual who wants to develop their own career by stepping up to director level to lead MTG through its next phase of development.

Alongside ambition, the Executive Director will need to be passionate about making a significant contribution to improving the lives and opportunities for young women and girls in rural coastal Kenya. The Executive Director must be prepared to be based in Kilifi, Coast Province, Kenya.

Executive Director

The Executive Director will report to the MTG Board and will lead this dynamic organization.

The Executive Director will be responsible for:
  • Strategic guidance to the programmes
  • Overseeing all programme implementation and M&E, publications and administration
  • Fundraising and networking, donor relationships and improving financial sustainability
  • Managing growth and MTG’s influence in the field of sport for development, sexual and reproductive health and girls and women’s rights
  • Governance and financial accountability
Person specification
  • Over 8 years experience in senior leadership or management position in an NGO setting
  • Proven fundraising and reporting track record with national and international donors
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in strategic programme planning, implementation, M&E
  • Experience in managing people
  • Excellent verbal, analytical and writing skills
  • Excellent English and spoken Kiswahili
  • Bachelor’s degree in development studies, social sciences or related
  • Commitment, passion and understanding of the sport for development approach
  • Background in sexual and reproductive health and rights and advocacy for girls and young women
  • Strong desire to work with under-served girls and young women
Remuneration and duration of contract

This is a full time contract for an initial one year period (renewable depending on performance and availability of funding).

Remuneration is based on MTG’s salary scale for the position.
