OSIEA Finance Officer Job Vacancy in Nairobi


The Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa (OSIEA) seeks a Finance Officer. Based in Nairobi, the position will report to the Finance Director.

The Open Society Institute works to build vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable to their citizens in over 70 countries worldwide.

OSIEA, a private grant-making and advocacy organization, implements a range of initiatives to advance justice, free speech, public health, and independent media in Eastern Africa.

Qualifications
Intermediate Accountancy pass - CPA II or equivalent.
Practical knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet and database softwares.
Minimum three years relevant accounting experience, preferably in an international or donor organization
Ability to work in a financially complex international organization
Ability to communicate patiently, clearly, and effectively with a diverse array of people
Team spirit and respectful working and decision-making style
Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail
Integrity, diplomatic manner, and professional discretion essential
Responsibilities
Processing payments and correctly recording entries in compliance with OSIEA policies and procedures. Preparing monthly bank reconciliations
Ensuring payments are promptly remitted, received, processed, and filed in an easily accessible manner
Certifying that all payment requests are supported by all the required documents, accurately stated/costed and properly authorized
Administering payroll and statutory deductions for PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, and HELB, printing and dispatching cheques before the due dates for all statutory deductions, collecting statements, and reconciling with contributions made at the end of the year
Making PAYE returns quarterly and withholding tax returns annually
Consolidating and preparing monthly withholding tax paying slip and ensuring payment is submitted by the submission date
Reviewing expense statements for compliance with OSIEA policies
Updating general ledger and preparing general ledger account analysis as required
Regularly updating the fixed assets register
Preparing analysis to support the Finance Director in preparing cash forecasts and expenses and assisting the Finance Director to generate monthly financial management reports to headquarters
Reconciling supplier statements
